ACleaner

Our Internet activities can be traced through caches, cookies, and usage history. In addition, Windows and third-party software store information through those same seemingly inconsequential files that users always leave behind. In these times of identity theft, we need to be ever vigilant in trying to protect our privacy. Here is where programs such as Acleaner from Cleanersoft Corporation come in. It is a free tool that lets you erase common Internet and computing tracks, removing those bits of information that could provide valuable data to would-be hackers.
The interface design is simple and easy to understand, even for a novice. Just mousing over a menu item will tell you what it does. It also has a Restore button so you can undo registry actions if critical files are deleted--a feature that we think is a must in cleaning tools like this. Other cool features include the ability to schedule how often you want to clean your computer and what to include or exclude. You can even set a password if you want to control who gets to erase what or ask the program to overwrite the deleted file a specific number of times just to be sure.
We did see some minor issues with the tool when we tested it, though. Once installed, Acleaner automatically puts an icon on your desktop without asking. Also, for a tool that is used to clean unwanted files, it does not uninstall as cleanly as expected. If you do decide to remove the program, some parts are left behind.
